Enrolling her at this school has been hands down the best thing we as parents have done for our daughter. GMA is a positive environment for young people delivering a consistent and overwhelming positive message in a sometimes negative world.

Martial Arts for Kids: What Your Child Will Learn

  • Self defence: how to avoid danger, escape grabs and protect themselves, with and without throwing a strike.
  • Focus and listening: following instructions and concentrating, skills that carry straight into school.
  • Confidence: earning each new belt shows children what they can achieve with effort.
  • Coordination and fitness: rolling, breakfalls, kicks and movement games that build strong, agile bodies.
  • Respect and Life Skills: our Kids Life Skills programme, co-written by Dr Warren Guest (PhD in Education), covers values like respect, gratitude and friendship.

My 2 youngest children attend twice a week and have a ball, not only do they learn a martial art, but their confidence has gone through the roof, they are doing hand stands, cart wheels and rolling confidently.

Self Defence and Bullying

We teach children how to handle bullying the smart way: staying aware, using their voice and body language to set boundaries, walking away and getting help, and only using physical techniques when they genuinely need to protect themselves. Read more in what you can do about bullying, or see our kids self defence classes.

…her confidence has really grown. She’s learning to defend herself and also enjoys the mat chats about friendship, gratitude, respect and other values.

My young son has been attending Guests Martial Arts for over three years, and it's really helped him with agility and coordination, and increased confidence in his physical abilities. … Lessons include discussions about things like friendships, positive social behaviour, sensible risk taking, and there are also reward programs for reading and good manners.

Looking for Kids Karate?

Many parents search for kids karate, so it helps to know the difference. Karate focuses mainly on punches, kicks and blocks. Our kids martial arts include strikes and kicks too, and add throws, safe falling, escapes from grabs and holds, and control techniques, so children learn to protect themselves without having to hurt anyone. All of our kids classes are self defence based rather than tournament based.

New Member LEGO Prize Draw

All new Ninja Stars and Samurai Warriors members go into a draw to win one of 10 NINJAGO LEGO sets, about $2,500 worth of LEGO in total. The draw is live on Facebook on 14 February 2027. We run a different LEGO theme every 6 months: the last one was STAR WARS, and the next might be HARRY POTTER.

Instead of paying Google or Facebook, we thought we would have a bit of fun and give it to our members instead. To enter, try our Free Trial Classes and join the school by 31 January 2027. Students who refer a friend who joins also go into the draw. Winners must still be training at the dojo on the day of the draw. Speak to reception for more details. Conditions apply.

From age 4½. Ninja Stars is for ages 4½ to 7, Samurai Warriors for 8 to 10, and Junior Adults for 11 to 15.

Can my 4 year old start martial arts?

Yes, from four and a half. Our Ninja Stars classes take children from 4½, when most are ready to listen, follow instructions and enjoy a 45 minute class. If your child is younger, give us a call and we can talk about the best time to start.

Is it karate?

Our kids classes are self defence based martial arts. Alongside strikes and kicks, children learn throws, safe falling, escapes and control techniques.

Will martial arts help my child with bullying?

Yes. Children learn awareness, confident body language and how to set boundaries and get help, plus self defence skills if they ever need to protect themselves.

How long are kids classes?

45 minutes, which suits children’s attention spans and keeps classes moving.

What should my child wear to the first class?

Comfortable clothes they can move in. A free uniform is included with the trial.

Are there grading fees?

No, never.

How does the free trial work?

Your child gets 4 free classes plus a free uniform, so you can both see if it is the right fit. Book online or call us on 03 9495 1929.
