Martial Arts for Reservoir

Kids, teens and adults · straight down Plenty Rd from Reservoir

Reservoir’s full-time martial arts school, just south

Reservoir is one of the biggest suburbs in Melbourne’s north, and plenty of its families train with us. Our dojo sits just south of Reservoir, past Preston, at the eastern end of Dundas St. Plenty Rd takes you most of the way, and on a weeknight it’s usually a 10 to 15 minute drive from Edwardes St or the Broadway shops.

Since 1997 we’ve taught martial arts that mixes karate-style punches and kicks with throws, escapes and locks. Kids grow in confidence and focus, teens learn to look after themselves, and adults get fit while learning skills that actually work.

Kids martial arts for Reservoir schools

Our after-school classes are full of kids from Reservoir East, Reservoir Primary, Reservoir Views, Reservoir West, Holy Name, St Joseph the Worker and St Gabriel’s. They start in Ninja Stars (4½ to 7), where games teach balance, listening and coordination, then move into Samurai Warriors (8 to 10) for proper technique, fitness and self defence. Every class includes a short Kids Life Skills lesson on things like respect, confidence and dealing with bullies.

Teenagers from Reservoir High and William Ruthven

Secondary students train in Junior Adults (11 to 15). It’s more physical and more focused on real self defence, including Knife Defence basics, with a clear belt path and instructors who treat teens with respect. Many of our teenagers say it’s the one place in the week where they switch off their phones and switch on.

Is it karate?

Parents searching for karate in Reservoir often ask how we compare. Our classes include the strikes, blocks and kicks you’d see in karate, but also teach how to escape grabs, fall safely, throw and control an attacker. It’s a broader, more practical skill set, and kids love the variety. There are no grading fees, and students are graded in class when they’re ready.

Adults from Reservoir

Adults train in 90-minute Adults Martial Arts classes at 7:15pm on weeknights, 9:30am on Tuesday and Thursday, and 12:45pm on Saturday. Prefer a workout? Fitness Kickboxing runs eight times a week, and BJJ runs Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
