The Kickboxing exercise classes are awesome. Great instructors. Pounding away on the high-quality punch/kick bags pushes my cardio fitness, tones my aging body, allows me to deal with the stresses of the day.

A Whole-Body Approach to Fitness

Most boxing workouts are upper-body heavy: shoulders, arms and chest. We take a whole-body approach by combining boxing rounds with kicking rounds.

  • Boxing rounds build your shoulders, arms, chest and back, and sharpen speed, timing and coordination.
  • Kicking rounds work your legs, glutes and hips, the biggest muscles in your body, so your heart rate climbs fast.
  • Every punch and kick is driven by your core, so you train your midsection in every round, not just in sit-ups at the end.
  • Mixing the two keeps your whole body working, spreads the load across more muscles and keeps classes varied, so you don’t plateau or get bored.

The result is a full-body workout in 45 minutes: cardio, strength, power and core, all in one class.

What a Class Looks Like

  • Warm-up: mobility, skipping-style footwork and light cardio.
  • Boxing rounds: punch combinations on focus mitts and heavy bags.
  • Kicking rounds: front kicks, round kicks and knees on kick shields and bags.
  • Conditioning: short, hard intervals for strength and endurance.
  • Cool-down: stretching to finish.

Been doing Fitness Kickboxing here for about 3 years. Cannot recommend GMA enough! The classes are always varied and fun, and the instructors are amazing and always put their own spin on classes, so you are learning something new with every class.

Boxing Classes for Beginners

You don’t need any experience, and you don’t need to be fit to start. Instructors show you how to stand, punch and kick safely, then you go at your own pace. Beginners and experienced people train side by side, and everyone gets a great workout.

Boxing fitness classes: common questions

Do you run boxing classes?

Yes. Our boxing fitness classes teach real boxing technique on pads and bags, combined with kicking rounds, as part of our Fitness Kickboxing programme. They are fitness classes, not sparring or competition boxing.

Why combine boxing with kicking?

Boxing mostly works the upper body. Adding kicking rounds brings in the legs, glutes and hips, and both drive the core, so you get a full-body workout and burn more energy than boxing alone.

Do I have to spar or get hit?

No. Classes are completely non-contact. You only hit pads and bags.

Are the classes good for beginners?

Yes. No experience or fitness is needed. Instructors teach you technique and you work at your own pace.

Do I need my own gloves?

Gloves are included with our kickboxing trial offer, and we supply all the focus mitts and kick shields.

When are the classes?

8 classes a week: evenings Monday to Thursday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and Saturday mornings.

How much is the trial?

Our Fitness Kickboxing trial is free: 4 free classes, plus a brand new pair of boxing gloves to keep.
