Life Skills

At our school martial arts is just the beginning of a primary school students experiences, we have high expectations for their growth on all levels, not just physically but mentally as well.  We have specific programs in place to develop their social skills and build strong character using a system of projects that we have developed right here at our school with the help of school teachers and psychologists to use exclusively in our program for our students.

All our Character Development Programme/Lessons have been built By Dr Warren Guest (PHD Education) and Former Business Analyst and Master Instructor Shihan Craig Guest.

This Very Special programme is the first of its kind and 100% unique to Guests Martial Arts.

This club/dojo has one of, if not the best children's program. Their curriculum has been meticulously developed to ensure your child cultivates values you would find in a traditional dojo, all the while holding on to the reality of current times.

It’s not only the body-confidence and fitness and strength the dojo imparts in their students, but we were stunned at first to learn of the personal development program that runs alongside the children’s classes mat work. Each week the kids take time out and sit in a circle to discuss issues such as dealing with bullies, respect, assertiveness, the benefits of reading and school, etc.

Children in Tournaments   Good or Bad - Yes or No

Kids Martial Arts Sparring
This may surprise you, but I don’t like tournaments, and here’s why. When we stand up in front of your child and say " its wrong to hit another person unless they are trying to hurt you " we actually mean it......

We can’t then say …. “Next Saturday there’s a tournament on etc etc ...” And at the tournament guess what happens? The kid who hits the most kids gets the biggest trophy, patted on the back and told well done..........What’s that all about?

At the end of the day, no matter what you are told or how it's sold to you one child is being rewarded for hitting another child, and that's just not what we're about.

My other major problem with tournaments is often when you join a martial arts school that has a tournament focus you're told "It's ok tournaments aren't compulsory".........but guess who gets all the attention, your child or the ones on the tournament fighting team?

Instead of chasing trophies by trudging around to tournament after tournament at a huge financial cost to you, long drives or flights, hotels, restaurants, equipment, start winning and it can be thousands of dollars and international flights !!

Instead of all that our full focus, 100% of the time, is on age appropriate Self Defence based martial arts and helping families be happy and healthy. If that makes sense to you then please consider trying out our free trial classes.

My young son has been attending Guests Martial Arts for over three years, and it's really helped him with agility and coordination, and increased confidence in his physical abilities. … Lessons include discussions about things like friendships, positive social behaviour, sensible risk taking, and there are also reward programs for reading and good manners.
