Self Defence near Reservoir
Self Defence Classes for Reservoir
Practical self defence for every age, just south of Reservoir

Self defence that becomes second nature
Reservoir has busy train stations, late buses and big shopping strips, and most people get through every day without a problem. Our self defence classes are for the day that isn’t like that. You learn simple, proven techniques and practise them every week until they happen automatically.
The dojo is about five kilometres south of Reservoir on Dundas St. Adults can train seven times a week, and kids and teens have classes every weekday afternoon and Saturday morning.

- Being shoved to the ground and needing to get up safely.
- A threatening person on a platform at Reservoir or Regent station.
- A knife threat, trained one month in every four in adult classes.
Every scenario starts with awareness and talking first, because the best fight is the one you avoid.
For Reservoir women
Women train alongside men and other women in our regular adult classes, so you practise against different sizes and strengths. Instructors adapt each technique to suit you, and most of our female students started with no experience. See women’s self defence classes.
For Reservoir kids and teens
Kids from Reservoir’s primary schools learn to stay aware, use a loud voice and escape grabs in Ninja Stars and Samurai Warriors. Students from Reservoir High School and William Ruthven train in Junior Adults, including Knife Defence basics. See kids self defence.
Reservoir parents ask us this a lot
“Will learning to fight make my teenager more aggressive?” In our experience it does the opposite. Students who know they can handle themselves feel less need to prove anything, and our training puts walking away first every time. Many Reservoir parents train in the adult class while their kids are in Junior Adults, which gives the whole family a shared language for staying safe on the train, at Edwardes Lake Park or out at night.

Had an awesome experience. Craig is super skilled, patient, and really know how to push you while keeping it fun. Everyone’s welcoming, and the training is really inviting for a beginner.

Amazing culture here and a very practical martial art. I've done martial arts for over 20 years and have struggled to find a club that balances humour, practicality, realistic techniques and education as well as this place.
— Andrew D.
This is an excellent place to learn martial arts. There's a seamless blend of respect for tradition and practical, effective, Self Defence. All in the most inclusive and welcoming environment you could ask for.
— Stu T.
This is a complete system for anyone wanting to learn not only physical defense, traditional weaponry, and modern day concepts, but also a balance of mental development for a pressured situation.

Great family friendly dojo. Very unique martial arts if you’re interested in practical defence techniques - boxing is great for fitness also.
