Teens from Pascoe Vale Girls’ College and beyond
Teenage girls and boys train together in Junior Adults (11 to 15). Parents of teenage girls in particular tell us they value the self defence focus, including awareness, escapes and Knife Defence basics, taught in a respectful, supportive class.
Saturday mornings make it easy
If the weekday drive is too much, Saturday is a great option. Kids classes run from 9am, Junior Adults follows, and adults train at 12:45pm, with Fitness Kickboxing at 10:30am and 11:15am. Many Pascoe Vale families make Saturday their main training day and add a weekday class when they can.
What Pascoe Vale kids gain
Parents from Pascoe Vale tell us the changes go beyond kicks and punches. Their kids are more willing to try new things, more confident speaking to adults and better at sticking with something when it gets hard. Belt gradings give them clear goals, and instructors celebrate effort as much as talent, so every child feels they’re making progress.

I’ve studied seven or eight martial arts myself over the years, but I’ve never seen a dojo so welcoming, or less driven by ego. … I really don’t think there’s a better martial arts venue in Melbourne.
— Aaron S.
Brilliant school- set up really well for kids (and adults), multiple classes divided by age, very motivating for kids to progress through belts, teachers all great with kids and supportive, additional discussions on discipline and motivation…
— Antonia J.
As a parent I'm very grateful for my son to have good adult influences outside of school and family and Thornbury Martial Arts provides just that - physical training, Self Defence skills, fun & games and good adult influences in a safe environment.
— Erik D.
I’ve been training here for over 7 years now. The staff are kind, professional and extremely welcoming and the community is second to none! … My confidence and fitness has improved greatly
— Anthony V.
This club/dojo has one of, if not the best children's program. Their curriculum has been meticulously developed to ensure your child cultivates values you would find in a traditional dojo, all the while holding on to the reality of current times.
