Kids, teens and adults · west along Banksia St from Heidelberg

A short drive west of Heidelberg

From Burgundy St and the Warringal Shopping Centre, our dojo is a straightforward drive west: along Banksia St, which becomes Bell St, across Darebin Creek and into Chifley Drive. It’s roughly three and a half kilometres, and most Heidelberg families are here in about ten minutes.

Guest’s Martial Arts has taught martial arts since 1997. Our community is big and friendly, our classes are grouped by age, and every student, from four-year-olds to adults, learns self defence that works.

Martial arts for Heidelberg kids

Families from Heidelberg Primary and nearby schools come to us for structured, age-grouped classes: Ninja Stars for 4½ to 7, Samurai Warriors for 8 to 10 and Junior Adults for 11 to 15. Kids build coordination and confidence, and our Kids Life Skills lessons cover respect, goal setting and handling bullies.

Day classes for hospital and shift workers

Heidelberg is home to the Austin and Mercy hospitals, and we teach plenty of nurses, doctors and other shift workers. Our 9:30am Adults Martial Arts classes on Tuesday and Thursday, and 11:15am Fitness Kickboxing, mean you can train on your days off without waiting for the evening timetable.

Karate, self defence or something broader?

Our martial arts classes include karate-style punches, kicks and blocks, plus throws, joint locks, escapes and weapons. Adults also train Knife Defence one month in every four. It’s a well-rounded art built around one goal: getting you home safely.

Families from the Heidelberg hills

Heidelberg families often tell us they chose us after trying a class at a school hall or community centre. The difference they notice is a dedicated, fully matted dojo, classes grouped by age, and a structured curriculum that builds every week. Kids train with friends their own age, and parents can see exactly what their child is learning and where they’re heading next on the belt path.

Starting at any age

We teach students from four to well over sixty. Heidelberg grandparents have joined adult classes after watching their grandchildren train, and parents who did martial arts as kids often come back after a twenty-year break. Everyone starts at their own level, and instructors adapt techniques for injuries and fitness.

I can honestly say all the programs from Ninja Stars, Samurai Warriors, Junior Adults and even the Fitness Kickboxing classes are some of the most well rounded programs I have seen.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Google Review
Great dojo space and even better teachers and instructors. … Ignited a passion for the martial art in a complete beginner myself!

— Jonathan Y.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Google Review
We couldn’t be happier with the care and patience that all of the teachers have with our son. Since we started, we have seen a massive improvement in his motor strength, coordination, and perseverance.

— Bohuslava J.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Google Review
My young son has been attending Guests Martial Arts for over three years, and it's really helped him with agility and coordination, and increased confidence in his physical abilities. … Lessons include discussions about things like friendships, positive social behaviour, sensible risk taking, and there are also reward programs for reading and good manners.

— Dan P.
