For Carlton students, families and workers
Carlton is home to students, young families and city workers, and many of them want a martial art that’s practical, social and good for fitness. Our dojo is about seven kilometres north-east, an easy drive with parking at the door.
We’ve taught martial arts since 1997: karate-style striking, throws, locks, weapons and self defence, in a welcoming community where beginners are the norm.

Studying at Melbourne Uni or RMIT? Martial arts is a great way to stay fit, manage stress and meet people outside your course. Our 9:30am classes on Tuesday and Thursday fit between lectures, and evening classes suit students who work. Try Adults Martial Arts, BJJ or Fitness Kickboxing.
Carlton kids
Children from Carlton Gardens Primary and Carlton Primary train in Ninja Stars and Samurai Warriors, with older kids in Junior Adults. Classes build confidence, focus and self defence skills, with Kids Life Skills in every lesson.
Flexible around semesters
Students often move, change timetables or head overseas. Ask us about flexible membership options when you finish your free trial, so training fits around semester breaks and exam periods.
Something to do outside lectures
Uni life can be lonely, especially for students who have moved from interstate or overseas. Our Carlton students tell us the dojo became a second community: people of all ages and backgrounds who train together, help each other improve and go for a meal after Saturday class. It’s a great way to feel at home in Melbourne.

My 2 youngest children attend twice a week and have a ball, not only do they learn a martial art, but their confidence has gone through the roof, they are doing hand stands, cart wheels and rolling confidently.
— Gavin B.
I'm only a few weeks in, and already feel like I'm learning heaps. … I'm sleeping better, I'm more focussed at work and in a better mood in general.
— Julian W.
I can honestly say all the programs from Ninja Stars, Samurai Warriors, Junior Adults and even the Fitness Kickboxing classes are some of the most well rounded programs I have seen.
— Van L.
Great dojo space and even better teachers and instructors. … Ignited a passion for the martial art in a complete beginner myself!
— Jonathan Y.
We couldn’t be happier with the care and patience that all of the teachers have with our son. Since we started, we have seen a massive improvement in his motor strength, coordination, and perseverance.
