Martial Arts near Fairfield
Martial Arts for Fairfield
Kids, teens and adults · just north of Fairfield, through Thornbury

Fairfield’s neighbouring dojo
Fairfield shares its northern edge with Thornbury, and our dojo sits at the top of Thornbury on Dundas St. From the Station St shops it’s a straight run north, usually under ten minutes in the car, which is why so many Fairfield families have made Guest’s Martial Arts part of their week.
We’ve taught martial arts in Melbourne’s inner north since 1997: confidence and focus for kids, self defence for teens, and practical training and fitness for adults.

Plenty of our younger students come from Fairfield Primary School and the surrounding streets. Classes are grouped by age, so every child trains with kids their own size: Ninja Stars for 4½ to 7, Samurai Warriors for 8 to 10 and Junior Adults for 11 to 15. Every kids class includes a short Kids Life Skills lesson on things like respect, goal setting and handling bullies.
What a first class looks like
Your child is welcomed by an instructor, paired with a friendly senior student and shown the basics: how to bow in, stand, punch, block and fall safely. Parents can watch from the side. Most kids walk out grinning, and you’ll leave knowing exactly what the next three free classes will cover.
Training for Fairfield adults
Adults choose from Adults Martial Arts (striking, throws, locks, weapons and Knife Defence), beginner-friendly BJJ, and our 45-minute Fitness Kickboxing. With daytime, evening and Saturday options, it fits around a commute on the Hurstbridge line.

I’ve studied seven or eight martial arts myself over the years, but I’ve never seen a dojo so welcoming, or less driven by ego. … I really don’t think there’s a better martial arts venue in Melbourne.
— Aaron S.
Brilliant school- set up really well for kids (and adults), multiple classes divided by age, very motivating for kids to progress through belts, teachers all great with kids and supportive, additional discussions on discipline and motivation…
— Antonia J.
As a parent I'm very grateful for my son to have good adult influences outside of school and family and Thornbury Martial Arts provides just that - physical training, Self Defence skills, fun & games and good adult influences in a safe environment.
— Erik D.
I’ve been training here for over 7 years now. The staff are kind, professional and extremely welcoming and the community is second to none! … My confidence and fitness has improved greatly
— Anthony V.
This club/dojo has one of, if not the best children's program. Their curriculum has been meticulously developed to ensure your child cultivates values you would find in a traditional dojo, all the while holding on to the reality of current times.
— Andrew S.
